Event UI: Polish And Pizzazz

Did you misread that as Pizza? Same. Because you should come away from this Dev Diary HUNGRY for the changes on the horizon. :pizza:

Last week, we talked about how we’re spicing our weekly competitions; you’ve already seen a few of these updates with new event mechanics (like the Letter Exchange in Tarnished Hearts) and gameplay styles (as in this week’s Pookiefy Runway), greater diversity in rewards, and clear graphics showing you the potential prizes.

But more than that… Our current event experience as a whole is a bit less cohesive than would be ideal. Events have been cobbled together across multiple teams and generations of players, leaving your boost in one corner, special sale bundles off on their own island, the event rewards tucked away from view, and energy feeling kind of randomly placed.

Buildings Need a Solid Foundation

Events are the hubs of our Highrise life, but in recent years, we’ve gotten away from this core cycle. We went from cohesive UI to scattered icons made by different teams, and from custom-themed event rooms to the same splatter-painted backdrop week after week. The event experience isn’t even front-and-center; you have to tap twice to even get into the event room to see what the looks are all about.

The end result is a disjointed experience; imagine a bunch of people singing in different rooms of a house. One is in the kitchen, two in the basement, one in each bedroom. What you get is a cacophony, not a choir.

UI polish is going beyond the prettification (though new event menus will definitely be hawt). We’re updating the whole experience, streamlining where you find important information and how you event, all in one.

Here’s a quick overview of the changes coming at ya soon!

Easy Access, Anywhere

Events are now instantly accessible via the event HUD, so now, all of your most important, long-term events live inside one handy pop-up screen.

The top of the screen immerses you in the theme with big key art, bold text, and a short story blurb, followed by a lookbook of the standout fashion rewards you can tap to see exactly how to earn.

Right there, you’ll also see related offers, a highlight of the event world, and a simple “how to play” section, so even new players know what to do. At the bottom, a pinned HUD keeps your tickets, rank, boost, and energy visible, and you can jump straight into your participation track, ranked rewards, or even browse previous events to see past scores and collections.

The idea is that everything about the event—story, looks, rewards, and progress—lives in one clear, stylish place.

Clear UI :handshake: Pretty UI

Events are ALL about the goodies. Whether you’re a collector for just for you, prefer to sell, or dig accumulating swag for bragging rights, getting after the new drops is why we’re all here, right?

Right now, the things you’re eventing for and spending your time and your hard-earned cash to chase… are kind of hidden and hard to find.

The new update, though? Rewards will be easy to identify, luxurious to scroll past, and overall a bit more magic.

The lookbooks are just the start: tapping an item shows exactly where it comes from in the event (participation track VS top of the leaderboard), so you always know what to aim for. Plus, when you’re checking out the rank menus, your current ticket rank is always visible as you side scroll to view the different tiered rewards, so you won’t have to endlessly toggle between the top and bottom of your screen to know where you’ll place.

Hardcore crews: if you’ve got ticket minimums, meet a new way to track your crew members’ contributions!

We’ll be adding more visibility around each individual’s ticket totals per event, allowing you to live track who’s bringing the competition.

Historical Records To Track Your Progress

Battling it out with another crew is all fun and games… until the underdog takes a sudden lead against all odds. Instead of throwing hands trying to figure out who got what score, settle your arguments the way we do here at Highrise: with DATA.

Previous event info, rewards, and rank are preserved the following week! We’ve literally heard that some folks even forget what event happened last week, and to be honest… they’re not alone. You put in a ton of work competing and styling in each event, and that should be honored with a quick way to look back at what you’ve accomplished in your previous eras.

Better Eventing UI

Improvements don’t stop with the event menu itself. We’ve also been working on the UIUX for the event gameplay itself.

Remember how we said that event icons, interactions, and gameplay felt cobbled-together… because they were? Eventing shouldn’t just LOOK streamlined and polished in the menus (though that certainly helps), they should also FEEL smooth, intuitive, and consistent across event types. It should be clear to both veterans and newbies what your energy is, where it lives, how to find your boost, and so on, even if the event type changes from Style Challenge to Runway, and more.

Plus, the meaty action at the center of events will get a polish pass too. For example, right now, rewards pop-ups are fun and exciting… the first time they happen. The thirtieth? Not so much.

We’re tidying up your in-game eventing experience to bring you smarter, quicker reward animations that don’t interrupt the eventing ‘flow’ just for small consumable rewards. Rewards will be delightful little bonuses - not huge distractions that make you want to throw your phone across the room.

TLDR: Prettier, Snappier, Better

  • Events, current and past, will soon be permanently visible and accessible via the event HUD icon

  • Rewards, ticket scores, and more are getting an update that prioritizes clarity and a luxurious feel

  • Eventing itself is about to get smoother with updated animations and UI that don’t interrupt your flow
