Hey Highrise fam
,
SubjectiveGravity here. I manage Trust & Safety at Highrise.
Earlier this month, we shared our Trust and Safety Future Initiatives report. We identified three areas where our community felt T&S was lacking: speed, fairness, and trust. We also outlined our future initiatives to pursue through the end of 2025. So, in this Dev Diary we want to highlight the changes made toward transparent moderation.
Report Confirmation Messages
This feature went live last Month.
In our current reporting framework, there is never a follow-up after a report sends. This is a frustrating system. Imagine reporting someone for harassment in a room, only to log back in the next day and see the same person still there, still active, with no idea if your report was even reviewed. It left many players feeling like their effort didn’t matter.
Now, if that same report is validated and leads to action, you’ll receive an inbox message confirming it. To protect privacy, the message won’t specify the exact report. But, it ensures you’ll know your voice made a difference.
Our goal with this new reporting structure is to allow players more insight into our process, which will help guide our future as Trust & Safety. If players receive a message saying their report led to an action, but it took too long, they can tell us to improve our response time. If players don’t receive a message and they want clarity on why their report did not lead to an action, they can reach out to us directly. Ultimately, we want the community to feel heard and understood. This is one of our first steps in that direction, and we’re looking forward to how your improved feedback will guide our future initiatives.
Clear Feedback for Toxic Chat Behavior
This feature went live last Month.
Equally frustrating for players is logging in to find they have had the ability to voice chat removed, their account has been banned, or they have otherwise been punished without clear feedback. We’ve taken our first steps to give those who have been reported this feedback. Now, when a player is muted or suspended for toxic chat behavior, they will see the quote that led to their punishment.
Our goal is always to encourage player growth, not to punish. By showing the specific behavior that violated our policies and led to Highrise being less safe, we give players clarity on how to act in the future. If players disagree with our assessment, having the quote also makes it easier for them to win an appeal.
Looking Forward
We are just starting our road towards giving players insight into how our Trust & Safety team operates and makes decisions. We will continue to monitor our impact and player feedback closely on these systems. Our goal is to make our moderation faster, fairer, and ultimately, give the community the information they need to feel a sense of trust with our team.
Thank you for being part of this journey. As a community, it is frustrating to see injustice go unanswered or feel unheard by the people who are meant to support you. Every time we report harmful behavior, welcome a newcomer, and choose kindness, we strengthen the culture of Highrise together. Thank you again, and have a wonderful day. ![]()
