Hey y’all!
Manjee here! I usually hang out with the design community in HR Concepts and Ideas, but today, I’ve got an important message from the Product team to share with you. ![]()
First, a bit of backstory.
Since Highrise was born a decade (!) ago, we’ve all lamented one sad, key fact about our grabs: it’s REALLY HARD to get the item you want.
When you’ve got your eye on that one crucial item that would totally complete your whole aesthetic, spinning and spinning until your Gold vault clears out just feels bad.
Not to mention… The nicest items in a grab are usually the hardest to get. Snagging a specific Legendary can feel mighty daunting if you’re only chasing down one coveted prize.
THIS ALL CHANGES NOW.
We’re imminently rolling out a new system for grabs using Featured Items and a new mechanic called Wishing that gives you way more control over what you’re actually spinning for.
There are some important things to understand about this, so let’s walk through it together. ![]()
PS: all images here are for DEMO purposes only! Some elements may change when this feature rolls out.
First up: Featured Items
The best items in a grab are now called Featured Items. These are usually Legendaries in Event and standalone grabs. Featured Items can only be items in the body of the spinnable grab itself; Progress Rewards, Completion, and Limited Time rewards are not Featured.
And, just based on how juicy these items are… these are often the pieces you’d normally be chasing the hardest: the statement hair, the massive wings, or the glam lashes.
By labeling them as Featured Items, we can build special rules around them… like Wishing.
Wishing: Choose the Featured Items You Actually Want
Wishing is how spinning gets much better for your sanity (and your Gold!).
In grabs that support it, you’ll now see an option to “Make a Wish” on a Featured Item.
That means:
- You pick one of the Featured Items as your Wish.
- When the game decides to give you a Featured Item, your Wish changes the odds of which one you get.
- Since these will usually be Legendaries, you can choose the Legendary item you want to prioritize.
When you’ve made a Wish, and you spin a Featured Item from that grab, here’s what happens:
- On your first Featured Item pull:
- 50% chance it’s the item you wished for
- 50% chance it’s a different item from the Featured pool
- If you don’t get your Wish on that first Featured pull, then:
- On your second Featured Item pull, your Wish is guaranteed.
- Update your Wish at any time! Even if you’ve already spun a Featured Item and are guaranteed to receive your Wish on your next spin, you can still adjust your wished-for item.
In other words, your first Featured is a coin flip between your Wish and another Featured item. If you “lose the coin flip,” the next Featured you get will be your Wish.
There isn’t a limit on how many times you can Wish! Once you get your Wish, choose another Featured Item… or pick your favorite again to start a collection. Wishes are infinite ![]()
A Note About Guarantees & Dupe Protection
A few months ago, we introduced Guarantees, which provided something called dupe protection.
Whenever you would spin a Guaranteed Legendary, the system would prioritize giving you an item you didn’t already own to make it easier to finish the grab.
Guarantees and dupe protection tried to make things feel less bad if you were getting unlucky… but it came with problems:
- It reduced your chances of getting dupes, but it didn’t actually increase your chances of getting the item you really wanted.
- You had very little agency, since dupe protection only kicked in after you’d already spun items you weren’t really aiming for.
- The Guarantee system and its promise of new items can be confusing, and lacks some transparency.
So, for Wish-supported grabs, we completely replaced the Guarantee & duplicate protection system with the Wish system.
This is because Wishing:
- Lets you choose exactly which Featured Item you want to work toward.
- Helps before things go wrong, not just after.
- And, it’s way more straightforward and visible.
Instead of mysterious background luck fixing things, you get a mechanic you can actually see, understand, and use strategically.
Full disclosure: the Guarantee system is still in use for certain grabs! Not all grabs will be immediately Wish-supported as we develop, tweak, and test the new system.
You can always check which grab is Guarantee-supported or Wish-supported by tapping the grab’s
button.
In Summary:
Wishing for Featured Items is part of a set of new grab features on the way to you soon! Wish gives you more control over what you’re actually chasing… even if some existing systems will change a bit to make this magic happen.
- Featured Items = the highest-rarity items in a grab: these are usually Legendaries
- “Make a Wish” on one Featured Item in supported grabs.
- When you spin a Featured Item:
- First time: 50% chance it’s your Wish, 50% chance it’s a different Featured.
- Second time (if you missed): your Wish is guaranteed.
- In Wish-supported grabs, Guarantees have been deprecated because:
- Wishing is a clearer way to get you the item you truly want
- Guarantees and dupe protection only helped after you were already unlucky
So if there’s that one Legendary that feels like it was designed specifically for your soul:
Make your Wish! It really will come true. ![]()
