Happy Halloween! 🎃 Looks Update: Fixes, Feedback, and Future Plans

Hi Highrisers :sparkles::tomato:

elmd here, Senior Product Designer at Highrise.

A while back, we launched Looks, a new way to share and explore outfits. Originally, Looks began as a way to post outfits in the Photo Booth. Our goal was to make it easier to see, share, and be inspired by amazing fashion across the community.

To achieve that, we gave the feature a complete makeover, transforming it into a more interactive experience with updated UI, a dedicated spot in the Feed tab, and new ways to explore how others wear specific items.

It was a huge step forward for fashion in Highrise, and we were blown away by your creativity with over 562,000 Looks posted so far!

Since launch, our team has been hard at work polishing, fixing, and fine-tuning every part of Looks to bring it closer to what we originally envisioned and what you’ve been asking for.

Check out below to see what we learned from our users, our current improvements, and future ones. Also, make sure to watch out for Highrise team’s Halloween costumes…:jack_o_lantern: :woman_mage:

You Spoke, We Listened

Over the past few weeks, we have been reviewing your feedback across Discord, Highrise, and support tickets. Here is what we heard the most:

You Want More Creative Freedom

Looks was meant to encourage self-expression, but many players felt limited in how they could post their outfits. Not being able to upload custom covers or control the feed’s vertical layout made it harder to create a cohesive aesthetic. We’ve heard your frustrations. Highrise is a place that supports creativity, and we did not intend to force players between posting multiple times to get the correct aesthetic or abandoning a feed they’ve worked hard to curate. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our top priority for Looks is giving users back custom covers.

The Interface Should be Intuitive

  • It is difficult to filter between different types of Looks. This made it harder to find a Look that has a specific item or came from a particular event.
  • The “Save” and “Post” buttons are hard to find, which made posting more tedious than it needed to be.

Technical Bugs and Frustrations

  • A bug prevented players from editing captions after posting, forcing them to delete and repost if they wanted to make changes.
  • Tap interactions sometimes felt inconsistent, making it hard to open or navigate posts.
  • OOTD quests required players to post OOTD on their feed. This led to filler posts of low-effort avatars, cluttering the Discover tab. This betrayed the concept of Looks as a space to inspire aesthetic choices.

What’s Better Now

We have already shipped several improvements to make Looks more polished, flexible, and enjoyable.

Improved Interaction

  • Edit captions, backgrounds, emotes, and covers anytime without deleting or starting over.
  • “Save” and “Post” buttons are now easier to find and use.

OOTD Improvements

  • You can now create your OOTD using items you already own.
  • OOTD quests can now be completed without forcing a post, allowing you to share only when you want to.

Quality of Life

  • Captions automatically translate into your selected language.
  • Improved haptic feedback when liking a Look.
  • Refreshed avatar animations and visual polish for both dark and light mode.

Better Discoverability

We updated the discovery algorithm to better balance posts between well-known and emerging creators. The feed now loads faster and scrolls more smoothly, making it easier to scroll through new Looks.

These updates are already live, so you can experience them now.

What’s Next on Our Radar

We are not done improving Looks. Some of your most requested features are already in development:

  • Custom Cover Uploads – Your top request! We’re bringing back the ability the upload custom edited images as Look covers. This will be a separate option to the previous Looks posting option.
  • Deeper Discovery Tools – We’re exploring filters, hashtags, and sorting options to make browsing more personalized.
  • Square Posts – We’re exploring ways to add 1:1 square posts as an option for Looks
  • Ongoing Polish – Continued improvements to responsiveness, transitions, and touch feedback.
  • Looks Goals – Small challenges and celebrations that reward creativity and style.
  • Post Customization Options – More tools to make your Look stand out.

Happy Halloween from Pocket Worlds! :ghost:

This Halloween, our team joined the spirit (and maybe a few Boo Buds) by celebrating Halloween our own way. From wicked witches to cybernetic warriors, the Pocket Worlds office turned into its very own haunted runway!
